One of the easiest and most effective ways to incorporate exercise into your life is to start a walking program.

Walking provides an excellent workout in many ways, and regardless of your current level of fitness, budget, or your environment, you can start walking your way to a fit and healthy life as soon as you decide to get moving.

Some of the benefits of walking for fitness include:

1 – Functionality

Simply put, walking is something we do every day. By intentionally implementing a walking program into your routine, you are using your normal everyday movements as a form of exercise…which is a safe and easy way to get fit.

2 – Perfect for Any Level of Fitness

Regardless of whether you are a beginner to exercise, or a seasoned fitness enthusiast, a walking program can be implemented; ranging anywhere from an easy one mile walk to a more advanced fitness walk covering several miles.

3 – Cost Effective

A walking program doesn’t have to be expensive.

You can easily go for a walk down the block, in the park, on the beach or right in your living room using one of Leslie Sansone’s Walk At Home programs. Her workouts are available for purchase on dvd, or you can do a search on Youtube for some of her free videos to get started right away.

4 – Health Benefits

Walking offers excellent cardiovascular benefits. Using the large muscle groups of the lower body builds strength and encourages the blood to pump back to the heart, resulting in more efficient circulation and improved muscular endurance.

If you are a beginner, start slow and progress to a more challenging pace as you develop the ability to do so safely. If you’re a seasoned fitness enthusiast, you can benefit from a walking program by changing up your pace to include speed walking and jogging intervals.

Always remember to stay hydrated and listen to your body.

Keep water with you and use the “talk test” to gauge your level of fitness. You should be able to carry on a conversation, even if a bit labored.

So now that you’re aware of the benefits of walking, the only thing left for you to do is to get moving.
